There are many things to do in Normandy, the list is endless.

Here are a few ideas of "things to do" near La Crepelliere. 

Mont St. Michel - 45min drive from La Crepelliere

Mont St. Michel A UNESCO world heritage site and the second most visited place in France. This Benedicitine Abbey was an important pilgrimage centre from 8th to 18th century and is a remarkable example of medieval and military history.

Bayeux Tapestry - 1 Hour drive from La Crepelliere

This is one of the main tourist attractions on Normandy and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Tappestry is 70m long and depicts the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy in 1066.

 

Normandy Landing Beaches - 1hr 15min from la Crepelliere

Visit the Historic routes of the D-Day Landings of the Second World War. Circular Theatre Arromanches 360 degrees projection will plunge you into the heart of the action.    

Villedieu Les Poele - 10min from La Crepelliere

Famous for its copper pan industry and bell foundry, one of the last working Bell foundries in Europe. Museum of Copper Pans and Lace in the “Cour du Foyer” classified as a Historic Monument.   The Copper Workshop – marvel at the skills of the copper chasers, tinkers and polishers.   http://www.thecopperworkshop.com/   The House of Pewter has a collection of pewter down through the ages. Museum of Norman Furniture – an exceptional collection of craftwork. The Eglise Notre-Dame dates from the 15th Century.  

Granville - 20min from La Crepelliere

An attractive seaside town with a good selection of shops and restaurants. Stroll around the old town (haute ville) and see the old houses that used to be the homes to ship owners and privateers. Visit the Granville Museum and learn about the regions traditions and Maritime past. A good view out to sea from the lighthouse from the Pointe du Roc and a battery from World War 2. Also in Granville a museum in honour of the designer Christian Dior. A stunning collection of haute couture. 

Granville beach is sandy and suitable for children. There is a salt water pool that is refreshed at high tide. The beach for swimming is in the centre of the town so it is easy to find somewhere for lunch, drinks and ice creams. Visit Jersey - Ferry crossings to the Channel Islands and Chausey with Manche Iles Express takes one hour, departures every day.

Coutances - 20min from La Crepelliere

There is a magnificent Gothic Cathedral erected in the 13th Century on a narrow platform 92m above sea level. Coutances flower gardens is one of the oldest in Normandy - a harmonious marriage of French symmetry, English copses and Italian terrases. 
 

Avranches - 15min from La Crepelliere

A large town with views of the Mont St. Michel Bay.  The Scriptorial at Avranches A museum housing the precious manuscripts brought to Avranches in the Revolution from the monastery on the Mont St. Michel. Museum Municipal – paintings and sculpture, as well as a collection of popular art, traditions and costumes. La Val St Pere (on the way to Avranches)
Museum of the Second World War. The Museum displays uniforms and troop equipment in real life situations.

Hambye Abbey - 10min from la Crepelliere

Founded in the 12th Century by Guillaume Paynel in a lovely rural setting of the forest of the Sienne valley.

La Lucerne-d'Outremer - 20min from La Crepelliere

An historic monument, founded in 1143. Nestled in the Thar Valley the Abbey was home to Prémontré canons.

Manoir d’Argences at Saussey (Near Coutances) - 25min from La Crepelliere

Linked together by covered walks of yew and hornbeam the 9 gardens are diverse and the pigeon house is a listed building. The Manoir houses a collection of antique glassware from 1st to 4th century. 

Family Entertainment

Zoo at Champrepus - 10min from La Crepelliere Well established with plenty of large animals and a small animal petting section. There is a children's play area with bouncy castles for all ages, snack bars, picnic area and restaurant.

Alligator Bay, Beauvoir - 40min from La Crepelliere Imagine you are an explorer searching for 200 alligators and crocodiles along a trail over wooden pontoons. Walk in the tortoise farm (300). On the road away from Mont St. Michel. 

Velorail - 30min from La Crepelliere In the Vire Valley, Conde Sur Vire. Discover the countryside from the railway. 
Train Touristique du Cotentin, Barnville-Carteret -  1Hr 20min from La Crepelliere A 10km ride looking out to the Channel Islands.

Traditions and Rural Heritage

Museum de L’Outil des Metiers du Bois, Montjoie-Saint-Martin - 40min from La Crepelliere An exhibition containing more than 600 hand tools from 10 different woodworking professions.  
Ferme Cidricole de L'Hermitiere, St Jean des Champs - 20min from La Crepelliere Discover 1200 years of cider making in Normandy.

The waterwheel still powers the machines and there is an aquarium that displays river fish such as salmon and tells the tale of their arduous journey. 

Regional Nature Parks

The regional Park of Cotentin and Bessin Marshes - 45min from La Crepellie. An exceptional regional park of scientific interest. 27,000 hectares of marsh, fen, and reclaimed land flanked by hedges and fields and dissected by ditches and canals. It is home to a vast population of wild and migrating birds, domestic animals and indigenous plant life.  Pont d’Ouve Centre is in the heart of the Park and will provide all the information necessary to make a visit interesting. From bird watching hides it may be possible to observe grebe, egret, lapwing, marsh harrier and buzzard.  Par Douve et Marais - a guided tour aboard a 68 passenger boat of the marsh, animals, flowers and old traditions with stop offs inlocal villages.

Chausey Islands - Visit the islands for the day and see a rich environment showing diversity in marine life and terrestrial habitat. Look out for dolphins and gannets.  

Walking and Rambling

There is an extensive network of well established trails that cover the countryside, the forest and the coast. All routes have marked trails that are easy to follow and cater for all abilities. We have maps with routes marked ranging from shorter 5km walks to longer 12km walks. 
Throughout the summer there are locally organized walks every Monday evening, setting off from a pre-arranged point, usually a local village hall or church car park. These walks are very enjoyable and a chance to meet French people and see some of the countryside that is off the beaten track.
